Tenerife beaches usually have dark volcanic sand rather than the golden beaches which you may be used to. The authorities have imported sand from the Sahara to try and improve this and there are several beaches - particularly those nearer Los Cristianos - which have a lighter texture. The one shown here is still one of the most popular as it is closest to the centre of the town. This set of photographs are of the area around Playa de las Americas which is my favourite area of the island.

Wild Beach Slightly away from the main beach area of Playa de las Americas. This shows the beach where some imported sand has been used. You will notice some of it is still relatively wild and quiet, even in September when this was taken.

Mount Teide Mount Tiede dominates the island. A one time volcano - don't worry, it hasn't been active for some time - it shelters the south of the island.
